The Quantificational Research Of Urban Road Space And Landscape At Night

Nowadays, a complete urban design should show vitality and characteristic round-the-clock. The prime factor of the urban space – the road, is not only the city's material framework, but also a process space of city life which is the main site to apperceive the city. At night, to build the spatial environment of city and setup people's activity is usually round the road, and then to become the other half style of city.The thesis based on today's night road space and landscape developments round the world, advocates the quantificational evaluation is the foundation and also objective and scientific basis and tools of road nightscape planning and design. The research consists of three parts:The first part (Exordium, Chapter 1, and Chapter 2) studied the relative conception and developing, and theories of correlative elements of road space and landscape in night synoptically. It analyzed its importance to the city. This part studied the relative theoretic and technical issues in road night space and nightscapes's planning and design synoptically. Then, defined the object and correlative conceptions definitely. So it tries to give a stage to evaluation and research system of road night space.The second part (Chapter 3, Chapter 4) classified the element of road night space by examples, and analyzed popular principle of road nightscapes design. It sought the factors for the evaluation system of road nightscapes. This part analyzed the quantificational relation between the road night-space appraisal and the optical parameter and lighting technology by study of controllable technical factors of road nightscapes. According to the last road nightscape design tide, it gives some new conceptions of classification.The third part (Chapter 5) advocated the thoughts of the quantificational appraisal and research of road night-space and nightscapes. Finally set up a system consist of "Attraction", "Vitality"and "Sustainability". This part probed the rationality of import of conception and new points in the thesis by analyzing and contrasting with co-generic conceptions in relative subjects. And verified the feasibility of this system by practical applications. It studied the technical deviation as well. It may be a new step in theory of road night-space and nightscapes.
