Along with the widely spread use of CFT (concrete-filled tube) structure, people have been paid more and more attention to the design of CFT joint. Institutes inland process massive research on CFT joint, but most of them were aim at joint style and few were at stiffness. As a matter of fact, we can hardly neglect the influence of different joint stiffness on the entire structure. Being a part of "The Study on Restraining Stiffness of Joints of CFT frame", a subject that is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, we study the CFT joints with stiffening ring which were recommended by the national criterion. By using universal finite element analysis program: ANSYS, we created and analyzed the solid model of the CFT joints, and later we manufactured 7 CFT joints with stiffening ring to process joint experiment, and then verify the applicability of the finite element models with the experiment result. Base on the models we have changed its detail dimension to confirm the influence of each factor on joint stiffness and create the joint's M-6 model, and then we applied the joint's M-9 model to the frame to analyze the influence of both semi-rigid connection and joint stiffness on frame mechanical performance. And finally we will try to design and verify the frame experiment model. In this subject we discuss how to obtain joint restraining stiffness: by using finite element tools to create joint model, then verify and adjust the model with few experiment. As to the study on factors that influence restraining stiffness, it was accomplished by the adjusted finite element model. Thus we can avoid repeating massive experiments and obtain data that satisfy the precision in analyses.
