Be structural members of possessing high performances, concrete filled steel tubular columns get the advantage over reinforced concrete columns and steel columns. Such as having great bearing capacity, good deforming and earthquake-resistant performances , saving in material and constructing easy. The joints are very important in the concrete filled steel tubular columns, they influence the structural entirety and reliability. They also influence the resist compression performance of the concrete filled steel tubular columns. So it's very important to research the concrete filled steel tubular columns by opening pore.Based on certain engineering in Shenzhen, this paper studied the bearing capacity of the columns by experiments and theoretical analyses, and also made numerical simulation analyses of the columns by finite element analysis software. The main contents are as follows:1. The paper made numerical simulation analyses of the columns by finite element analysis software-ABAQUS in order to study the situation of the columns' stress-strain and failure in experiments.2. The author made an experiment on the columns. From the results of the experiment, we could study service behavior and failure state of the columns, and determined effect of the strengthening rings and the strengthening ribs by comparing the bearing capacity between the columns with joints and without joints.3. By making numerical simulation analyses and experiments, this paper provided engineering with appropriate means about designing the columns. It also provided reference for similar engineering application.From the experiments' results, we can see that the strengthening rings and the strengthening ribs do nothing to the bearing capacity of the columns. The failure all occurs at the end of the columns and steel pipe buckles partially near the strengthening rings. Form the numerical simulation analyses of the columns, it is clear that there is stress concentration at the end and near the strengthening rings. When the failure of the columns occurs, the steel pipe yields and the strengthening ribs are still elastic. All those are identical with the situation of the experiments. The results of finite element are also consistent with the results of the experiments and the theoretical analyses, so they proof further that the results of the experiments and the theoretical analyses are correct.
