The process design of the pipeline is critical to subsea pipeline project. Including the pipe size, pressure drop, temperature drop, insulation and materials, the design is to select the reasonable and economical delivery parameters and materials according to actual practice condition, so as to achieve the best and/or better economical in cost while contenting with requirements for fabrication, construction, operation and maintenance.An excellent project is not only to ensure the safety on the technology, but it also need to consider many other factors such as economy, environment influence etc. For these factors, some maybe confirmed, the others maybe qualitative only. It shall get a reasonable evaluation based on the engineering experience of specialist, so the optimization of the designing schemes becomes more complicated.Nowadays, quantitative (numerical) analysis decision and qualitative analysis are applied in project decision. But for a complicated engineering, there are many factors can not analyses as quantity, it is difficult to decide with quantitative analysis. Thus, the two analysis methods above must be used combined at most conditions. In this paper, the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) and Expert Decision (Expert System Analyses) have been applied to optimize the project design. Using this kind of method to handle the system half quantitative and half qualitative has the certainly realistic meaning.Using the project of Bonan Offshore Oil/Gas Field in which I once engaged as an example, this dissertation mainly introduce some relative basic concept about subsea pipeline, which includes analysis of temperature and pressure drop, process of cooling and freezing, hydraulic analysis of multiphase pipeline, calculation for heat tracing and insulation of pipeline. To the design problem, illustrate three schemes for selection. After detailedly introducing the experts' decision and AHP methods, use these to choose the best one from the three schemes.
