Research on lateral load behavior of pile in liquefying sand underearthquake loading is a current research hotspot in the fields ofgeotechnique engineering. There are many problems on pile dynamicresponse to study at present. The paper studies lateral load behavior ofpile by performing the shaking table tests. In the paper, the mainresearches can be concluded as the following: The paper introduces the main situation on shaking table model testswhich referred to lateral load behavior of pile in liquefying sand. Designand performance of model container, making technique and characteristicof model pile, as well as characteristic and disposal of transducers aredescried in the paper. In addition, the paper pays attention to testtechnique of controlling drainage during the shaking, as well as testtechnique which make saturated sand by means of vacuum-saturating. After analyzing time histories of acceleration and excess pore waterpressure ratio for various depths throughout the soil profile, and timehistories of bending moments along the pile for various relative densities,we find that the dynamic response of pile largely depend on the relativedensity of sand. Test data processing method is studied for the characterof shaking table test signal in the paper. For various sand densities, dynamic p-y cures are compared to static p-y cures and monotonic p-ycures recommended by API. The paper describes the course of thesoftening of lateral p-y behavior of pile during the shaking, put forwardthe relationship between the lateral load behavior and excess pore waterpressure, and makes the conclusion which the softening of lateral loadbehavior relies on the sand density.
