In the present paper, the author has particular researched into the saturated-unsaturated seepage theories and numerical methods of the roller compacted concrete (RCC) dam based on the previous achievements in the field. The following contents are included:(1) Based on the fundamental seepage theory, the basic differential equation of saturated-unsaturated seepage in porous mediums has been deduced, in which the pressure head is the fundamental unknown quantity. Furthermore, the equation for RCC dam is deduced too. Then, the basic seepage theory and seepage characteristics are analyzed carefully in this paper.(2) The author researches the theory about field borehole test and result analysis, and gets quick, accurate and simple theory, method and technology with which the engineers can inspect the construction quality of RCC dams and feed back the construction.(3) Based on finite element method(FEM), the author compiles the three-dimensional seepage field computation program of RCC dam. In the program, the RCC intervals and drainage holes are simulated which are very important to the seepage field distribution, and the complicated process is put forward when drainage hole and exit surface intersect, and so on. So, the author could research and solve the RCC dams' seepage characteristics and seepage flow accurately and quantitatively.(4) The seepage prevention structures and drainage structure is very important for the safety and stabilization of RCC dams, so their effects is discussed in this paper to the seepage field's characteristics of RCC dams, moreover, the seepage control schemes of RCC dam is analyzed.(5) The author researches the seepage characteristics of Longtan RCC dam by finite element method (FEM), and concludes the best suitable seepage control scheme of the dam after analysis in so many cases.
