The mechanisms of crack propagation and the surface deformation phenomenon of silver-based contact materials are investigated based on experiments carried out and theoretical analysis in this paper . The surface deformation phenomenon of five kinds of contact materials are analyzed through breaking arc and microanalysis experiments , four types of cracking are classified: gas hole cracking, crystalline boundary line cracking, cross cracking, cross crystalline boundary line cracking, their math models are established and analyzed the mechanisms of cracking formation and propagation .The key factors affecting the electrical life of contact materials are established based on experiments and physical analysis, a second-calculation fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method for electrical life is also presented. The calculation results on the electrical life of five contact materials coincide basically with the experimental results.
