With the development of modern science and technology, free-form surfaces are widely used in aviation and space flight, automobile and impeller machines. Since the higher quality of free-form surfaces are required, it is very important to measure the free-from surface accurately and quickly.The most popular equipment used in free-form surfaces measurement is three-coordinate measurement machine (CMM). CMM use the special probe to take measurement. So the CMM' s function precision and working efficiency is closely related to it' s probe. At present, in most cases free-form surfaces are measured by traditional contact probe. Although contact probe have high precision in measurement, it suffers many troubles, such as low automation, high price, low speed and cannot measure the soft surface etc. Optical non-contact probe overcome these troubles. It is based on the modern optics, combined the electronics, computer image, information process, precision machine etc. The emergence of new type of non-contact probe will have great value in application. Therefore, this paper is based on making a new type of non-contact probe .The following work has been done in this project:(1) Discussed the principle of form measurement by Triangulation and put forward the problems of non-contact measurement now;(2) Find out ways to solve the problems;(3) Designed the optical paths and the parameters of probe;(4) Designed probe' s mechanical structure and made a program for image processing ;(5) Designed a system to test the performance of this probe.This new type of probe can measure the surface of free-form such as impeller machine. It has the advantages of large measurement range, high accuracy and efficiency. It can be mounted on the Three-coordinate measurement machine or other length measurement machine like Interferometer to take measurement.
