The development of civil engineering technique makes it possible to design and build large and super large structure .The FEM(finite element method)is one of the important numerical methods in modern engineering design and analysis, so the FEM structure analysis software is used to make numerical analysis in the processes of engineering design. It is complex and large simplification must be made if the beam_column joint is analyzed by Material-Strength method, and calculation accuracy is lower. Larger safety-factor is often adopted to ensure the portal frame safe, this result in large structure size, more material cost and higher manufacture cost. FEM is a method of high speed and high fidelity. The stress, displacement, stability and dynamics of the portal frame are made clearly after Finite Element Analysis(FEA) in the design stage at the same time. It is conveniently to improve the structure of the frame repeatedly, to reach the target of structure optimization. Reduce the structure size, cost, and designing and manufacturing time with the portal frame safe.In this thesis, nonlinear finite element analysis about two different beam-column joints of Steel Beam-Steel Reinforced Concrete column was studied with ANSYS. The capacity, stress, displacement and other abilities of joints was analyzed. Good agreements between the finite element model and the experimental results were found. It showed the models are accurate.
