Reactive power and voltage control in the distribution systems is very important. It makes the running of the systems more safe and stable and economical. It can also decrease the real power loss and improve the voltage. This article has discussed the control problem in a distribution substation and on the distribution line respectively.Reactive power/voltage control in a substation using general approach usually results in the voltage of the second side being too close to the boundary. It will make the ability of enduring the variation of load in a system decrease a lot and become the threat of the system. Based on the short term load-forecast, this article uses genetic algorithm to calculate the optimal control schedule in a substation. It constructs a model of the reactive power and volt control problem first and uses genetic algorithm to calculate the optimal control. An instance indicates that the proposed approach can find the optimal control more effectively than general approach and can minimize the reactive power through the transformer and the deviation of the secondary bus voltage. It also increases the margin of appropriate voltage in the second side. When discussing the control problem on the distribution line, the thesis construct the control model considering the real power loss and the voltage constrain using the fuzzy method first. Then it finds the optimal control schedule utilizing the GA and TS algorithm together on the basis of comparing the two algorithms. An instance indicates the validity of the proposed approach. It can improve the speed of calculating and have the capability to run on line and to calculate in a distributed network.
