In order to apply the sustainable development in the building industry , walling materials and residence system should be reformed. The common shear wall structures which are adapted to sub-high rise residences have many disadvantages. For example, it has large self-weight, stiflhess and seismic response, poor ductility and energy wasting. Therefore, our subject studies new hollow shear wall of R.C which has not only good carrying capacity belonging to common shear wall structures but also small self-weigh, small stiflhess and good ductility. This kind of shear wall structures will be energy saving and ductile structures. In order to study the characters of die hollow shear wall structures, we accomplished the pseudo-dynamic and quasi-static test of 1/2.8-scale model ten-story building assembled with hollow shear wall. This test is one of the largest tests which have been finished in our country. The internal force, the deformation and the failure mechanism of the building under earthquake action are studied. The rules of cycle, frequency and response spectrum are studied. The characters of earthquake response such as structure displacement, interstory drift, action of earthquake, the amplificatory coefficient of acceleration and the rule of strain are discussed. The deformation property, the character of hystersis curve and the restoring force are studied. Based on the conclusion of test and calculation, the application of the hollow shear wall structures of R.C is discussed. The method of load responseanalysis and the design method of the structure are brought forward. Combined the computation example ,the similarity and difference between hollow shear wall structures and common shear wall structures are discussed as the aspect of design method and result.
