In traditional design, an object was usually divided into many independent parts, which would be studied separately, therefore the conclusion tends to be unilateral and limited. In Design Methodology, the object can be regarded as a whole in the light of the viewpoint of Systematology. From analysing the relationships between each part as well as the ones between the system and its environment, we can strive to work out the best well-rounded scheme. In this project, the design methodological principles and methods have been applied to the product development of the motorized sign with sliding panels. The design of the sign can be divided into four stages: product planning, concept design, technical design and detail design, the tasks and purposes of each stage have been made clear, and the process of the product development been built up. The steps as analysis, synthesis, evaluation and decision have been implemented at all stages of the design of the sign. Thus, the essence of things can be deeply probed, the best scheme be worked out and the prototype be made successfully. In this project, the difficult technical problems such as the curving, slanting and breaking of the panels have been solved. In this project, we can see that Design methodology is applied mainly to original design, because the new solution is always asked to satisfy the new function. On the contrary, it is not often used in adaptive design and variant design, for the investigation on the functions is no longer the focal point of the work.In this project, the design methodological principles and methods have been applied successfully to the product development of the motorized sign with sliding panels. The aim of verifying Design methodology as well as developing product has been attained. It has proved that the principles and methods of Design Methodology are universally applicable. It is a beneficial try, and a successful practice of Design Methodology as well. |
