Nowadays as the society develops so fast, the demand for power- supply reliability of distribution systems is higher and higher. In order to describe the reliability indices clearly and systemically that aren't existing now in our country yet, this paper studies the distribution systems reliability in several aspects such as parameters collection, indices decision, evaluation algorithm discussing, economic analysis, result showing and so on. The research affords important suggestions for the reconstruction of urban distribution systems. This paper evaluates the reliability making use of a method named Equivalence-Based Shortest-Route method, on based of collecting basic datum and founds a series of reliability indices. The reliability level of the whole system under study can be got by the loads reliability indices and sub-system reliability indices, and an integrated model of reliability and economics is founded. GA algorithm is introduced to resolve the conflict problem between these two aspects. Recurring to the map drawing, data revising and storing functions, the results are displayed in the GIS background images easily and lively. It lays a well foundation for the further application of GIS in distribution-system reliability management and evaluation, and affords a broad foreground for the development of distribution system reliability.
