The study on the interaction laws beween the circular ice wall and supporting structure is of great importance in the ground freezing. The author presents the styles and difficulties about some applications of the ground freezing method in geotechnical engineering firstly. And then based on the theoretical analyses and the numerical simulation results of the elasto-plastic and creep models as well as the modeling tests, the interaction laws have been obtained. The results of elasto-plastic model indicate that the distributions of stresses and displacements are not closely related to excavation height. In this case the supporting structure has a appreciable restricting effects which prevents the ice wall from displacing and rotating freely. However, besides the effect of the excavation , the creep characteristics of artificially frozen soil ,the exposed time and height all have strong effect on the distributions of the stresses and displacements in the creep models and modeling tests. Therefore, the author suggest that all these factors should be taken into consideration in engineering. It is concluded that the theoretical and numerical methods as well as modeling test can be used in the studying of the laws between ice wall and supporting structure thus to promote the development of this academic field.
