Portal Cranes are the main handling facilities of the port production and the technological state of their performance affect the production efficiency and economic benefits of the port directly. This paper is based on the faults of the portal crane of the Tianjin Port and puts forward effective modification measures with technical ways as finite element to analyze the reasons of them. This paper also takes a deep research on the application of the vibration monitoring technique to the portal crane.Based on the deep analysis of the reasons of the cracking of the gear table cylinder of the 16t-33m portal crane, this paper puts forward the repairing way of the cylinder and fully calculates to confirm. After repairing, the normal work of the gear table cylinder indicates the correctness, and economy of the repairing way, which is worth generalizing wide use.Based on the cracking faults of the output shaft of the rotating reducer of the 40t~33m portal crane, the paper carries out a deep calculation and analysis, finds out the unreasonable problems in the type selecting of reducers and the designing of output shafts, puts forwards a new way of type selecting, makes some improvements on the designing of output shafts, and betters the force borne by the shafts. The practice proves that the modification way to the swinging reducer is right.The vibration course of the working mechanism of the portal crane has its particularity. Based on the 40t-43m portal crane, this paper analyzes deeply the problems which happen when the vibration monitoring technique is applied to the portal crane and puts forwards the ways of applying vibration monitoring technique to the lifting mechanism, enacts the original values of the relative judgement criteria of the lifting mechanism of the 40t-43m portal crane and makes a under structure for the future state monitoring ofcrane.
