Referring to the current study of cast-in-situ piles with expanded branches and plates and methods of pile foundation analysis, the paper makes a thorough research on the bearing and deformation behavior of vertically loaded piles with expanded branches and plates. At first, based on the results of field pile tests, conclusions are made that the resistance of expanded branches or plates behaves mainly as end-bearing force, and this new type of pile can be classified as multi-end-bearing piles with friction.Secondly, the well-known load transfer approach has been modified to analyze single piles of this kind. And its feasibility is verified through a case analysis.Thirdly, the bearing and deformation characteristics of single and group piles are investigated by means of axisymmetric finite element analysis (FEA) and three-dimensional FEA.At last, suggestions are given on the designing of vertical space between expanded branches or plates, pile spacing and disposal of pile position.
