As the development of power system, the capacity of communication has become more and more important in the substation automation system. Now the Ethernet measurement and control network has used widely in the high voltage level of substation. For the 500KV voltage level of substations, there are two 10M Ethernets which are used for the measurement and control network and are standby each other in the CSC2000 system. MASTER connects the field bus and Ethernet. In order to satisfy the demand for the communication capacity in the future, we develop a new embedded communication platform, which can be called enhanced MASTER. The new communication embedded communication platform has much improvement in the capacity of communication and computation. MPC860T is the kernel of the embedded communication platform. The communication platform has two Ethernet interfaces that one is 10M Ethernet and the other is 10/100M Ethernet, two CAN interfaces, LonWorks interface, synchronous and asynchronous serial port and so on. It contains 2M bytes FLASH and 16M bytes SDRAM. It run the embedded real time operating system-VxWorks, which is developed by wind river system company. VxWorks has widely used in the field of communication. If the embedded communication platform used in the CSC2000 system, the speed of the measurement and control network can reach 100M. To a great extent, it enhanced the communication capacity of substation. Furthermore, it can be updated easily and can be adapt to more complex application.
