The characteristics of power system development are as follows:the increasing of overall capacity of power station and capacity of a single generator,the prolonging distance of transmitting electricity,and loads far away from power source with intense fluctuation. Under this condition,stability of transmitting electricity decreased rapidly and it was probably increased that the power system collapsed. So the stability of power transmission is a most prominent problem to be desiderated.Among the provinces in China,Sichuan has the most abundant hydraulic source. It was brought into the national plan to translate her power to the east. With the putting into production of Three Gorges power station,Sichuan-Chongqing power network and Central China power network will be conjoined and the most important problem is the stability of conjoint network. Due to the inherent weakness of the channels translating the power to the east,especially the large difficulty to establish the network from Three Gorges to Wanzhou,it is impossible to solve these problems by means of increasing the number of lines translating electricity and solution of these problems must depend on the modern control technology.Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS),based on the modern power and electronics and computer technology,is one of the three most advanced researches in modern power system. To be able to realize the continuous,speedy and bi-directional modulation is its main characteristic and plays a distinct role in stabilizing the power system. On the basis,the paper emphasized the study on the prospect of application of FACTS technology into Sichuan power network as following aspects:Basic principle of FACTS controller and its practicability analysis;(2)Stability status of Sichuan power network and application analysis of FACTS into the network; Establish the power network model containing FACTS controller and program,and compute the stability during the dynamic process with large disturbance of translating the 1500 MW power from the Wanzhou-Three Gorges conjoint to Mid-China.As a result,FACTS controller can distinctly increase the stability of Sichuan power network and ability translating the power to the east. It is necessary to bring FACTS controller into the planning of Sichuan power network,and establish the application steps on the basis of Sichuan power network.
