With the development of power electronic technology, more and more power electronic facilities have been used in power system. As for firing and monitoring system for thyristor valves, The requirements for that have become so high that the electromagnetic one has not satisfied these needs. The system of photoelectric firing and monitoring for thyristor valves has become prevalent. However, there is up to now not a set of photoelectric firing and monitoring system for thyristor valves that is developed by ourselves. So the purpose of this paper is to develop thus system and apply it in TANGGANG TCR project.The theories of photoelectronics and the optical fiber are the bases of photoelectric firing and monitoring system for thyristor valves. Firstly, this paper presents those theories. Then some advises that are useful in project have been given.Thyristor Electronics (TE) is the very important component of the photoelectric firing and monitoring system for high-voltage thyristor valves, which locates on the high-voltage side of the facility. In this paper, the principle of TE is introduced in detail. Also, the circuit of RC obtaining power that is the core component of TE has been simulated in PSPICE widely, and the factors that affect the operation of this circuit are discussed. Then the results of the high-voltage test of the TE board are presented, which fit very well with the simulation results.Valve Base Electronics (VBE) is installed at earth potential, which is the interface between the facility's control system and the thyristor valves. It comprises firing sector and monitoring sector. All tasks of delivering information to the valves for firing and of receiving information from the valves for control and monitoring are completed by it. This paper have introduced its principle and realization in detail, the related program flow chart is given, too.Also, the application of photoelectric firing and monitoring system forhigh-voltage thyristor valves in the TANGGANG TCR project is presented.At the end of this paper, the prospect of firing and monitoring system for high-voltage thyristor valves is brought forth.
