Of all the building materials used in construction, 70% of coverage are wall materials. They are also important product of consumable material and energy source. Use of traditional solid clay brick have been already gradually prohibited, many new wall materials of block masonry have been put into used. Because of the lack of understanding of its characteristic, in recent years the problem of masonry's crack have badly influenced masonry's function. If we have enough knowledge about the basic mechanical behavior of new material of block, and study the cause of crack, The emergence of crack can be avoided. But as the result of masonry's discrete and peculiar character, the study of the mechanism of cracking generating and proceeding of the masonry is still under scrutiny. For this reason we analyze the failure pattern and mechanism of masonry crack generating by means of experimental study of the basic mechanical behavior of sand-lime brick masonry. And we discuss the feasibility of the use of the theory of crack mechanics to analyze masonry's crack. At the same time in this paper we analyze nonlinear behavior of masonry through Finite Element Method program and obtain its load when the wall start to crack and when it destroy, the p-u curve and so on. A comparison has been made between the data obtained from the experiment and the calculated through Finite Element Method program so that we can study the cause of crack. In this paper we use Finite Element Method to study concrete's character to analyze masonry, satisfactory results have been attained. A new method for similar test has also been introduced in this paper.
