This thesis comes from the subject at National Science Fund Research Project. It studies the structure design of intellectualized ER. ( Electroheological Fluids) braking device, performance and the application in the automobile brakes.Automobile is principal traffic implement, it is the symbol of science and technique development. Brake characteristic is its one primary performance in that itwill affect the traffic security. In modem ages automobile has two types: disc brake and drum brake. Its defects are these: bad brake performance , bad heat-resistant nature, bad water damping quality and bad stabilization of direction. So itis necessary to develop new ER. with variable structure parameters and intellectualized characteristic.ER. uses intellectualized materials as working medium, realizing the intellectualizing of brake properties. This paper makes deep analysis on the brake torque of ER. on the basis of the principle, hydromechanics analysis and the analysis of action between ER. fluids and poles, and compares ER. with conventional automobile brake, finally discusses advantages of ER. It also designs a new test-bed, selects and designs every structure and its parameters , deduces the calculated equations of resistant torques of ER. In the end it discusses types of ER. , magnitude of electric field, distance between poles, area of electric field , the influence to brake torque of conventional interface state and dimension and the like. Its actual values has been tested by the heat balance calculations. The ER. has a notable advantages and a new intellectualized brake. These are Infinite-speed regulating to brake force has a wide controlled range ,big response velocity and is easy controlled by computer. Thus.so we may say that it has a widely developing future.
