Metal Arch corrugated Roof (MACR) is a new type of cold-formed thin-walled light steel structure. It possesses the advantages that is having light dead weight, quick in construction and beautifully shaped. Since it was introduced to China in late 1980s, it has been widely used and has high competitive power and developing prospect. However, owing to various shortcomings caused by the existence of great deal of irregular corrugation and processing, the complexity of the structure analysis exists. Up to now, no formal designing and construction standard has been issued in the world. Such kind of condition is doubtless left behind by the actual application of MACR, and prevents the structure from healthy development as well. And the frequent accidents of engineering prove it urgently necessary to carry out a theoretical analysis and experimental study systematically. In the field of roof structure design, wind load is a very important designing load that is the main external load and the main cause to the roof destruction. Because the structure of MACR has a wide span, thin steel and light dead weight, it is extremely necessary to study the bearing performance of the structure under the effect of wind load. This paper takes the type W666 of Metal Arch corrugated Roof as its object of study, and continues to use the means of the structural simplified calculating model that is adopted by document [10] to set up some models of structural finite element analysis. Besides, by making use of the interchangeable program of ANSYS finite element analysis, the geometric non-linear finite element analysis of 18m and 30m span of MCAR under the effect of wind load was carried out under the condition of different supporting stands and different ratio of height -span. The result shows that the displacement curve of the load of the structure under the effect of wind load is up dented in shape, and the extreme value point, which is called strength issue in mechanics, will not occur. Apart from that, the displacement and stress of the structure will increase along with the increase of ratio of height -span and span.At the same time the effect on the performance of wind load was analyzed from the condition that MACR had snow load. The result shows that the effect of whole-span snow load can counteract a part of the wind load of the lee side of the MACR. Thus the deformation of the structure in the place of 1/2 span is decreased, which makes the load-bearing capacity of the structure improve accordingly; while half-span snow load is put on one side of the wind pressure of MACR, which adds to the wind load of the windward side of the structure. Thus the deformation of the structure will be increased in the place of 1/4 and 3/4 span, which makes the load-bearing capacity of the structure decreaseaccordingly.Besides, to counter the condition of MACR' s having asymmetric up-arch deformation under the effect of wind load or half-span vertical load, which cause local buckling destruction, a way to strengthen MACR under the effect of wind load was put forward in this paper. That is to add ring hoops on MACR. According to the displacement reaction of MACR under the effect of load, the beforehand pressure will be adjusted to limit the up-arch deformation of the structure. In this way, the deformation of the whole structure will be restrained. The finite element analysis for it proves that the plan is practical and it has good effect on improving the vertical load-bearing capacity of the structure. Some references for the design, study and application of MACR are provided by the study achievements in this paper.
