Based on the systemic analysis of the configuration of the hydraulic excavator and the whole study of its fault diagnosis, this paper bring forward an on-line 3-layers fault diagnosis framework which is based on a circular-respecting system running on palm-size computer. And accomplished several important functions with the advanced technology - embedded system. Through deep analysis of the procedure of the maintenance man, we decided the method to express the field knowledge and the way to reason, which can reduce the work of the procedure and enhance the precision ant the veracity of the result to great extent. This paper can be divided into six chapters as follows:Chapter 1 summarized the history and the foreground of the fault diagnosis technology from the materials in domestic and abroad. At the last part of this chapter, it shows the framework of the whole paper.In chapter 2, Through analyzing the architecture of the excavator, we gave the collection and organization of the diagnosis and experience knowledge and the typical failures. Analyzing and comparing the basic methods used in the fault diagnosis field nowadays, we put foreword the architecture of the excavator fault diagnosis system.Chapter 3 introduces the embedded system technology in several aspects, such as the history, the character, the foreground and the application in domestic and broad relational field. At the end of this chapter, we demonstrate the applicable and the advantage of applying the embedded system into the engineering.Chapter 4 covers the details of the knowledge express and the fault reason. And several examples are offered to show it explicitly. Chapter 5 gave some introduction of the modules which have been completed.Chapter 6 summarizes the whole paper and gives some advice to point out the research focus of this title and its possible future.
