In this paper, a formula model of the coefficient of friction(λs) in pneumatic transport is proposed. A simple experimental configuration of pneumatic transport is employed. Based on a lot of measured pressures and pressures drop in two section of pipe vertical and horizon, the exponents in the empirical formula are determined.Utilizing the empirical formula of the coefficient of friction, and referencing a great number of literatures, a calculated method for pneumatic conveying system in pipe is proposed. In this calculated method, the friction force solid particle and pipe wall(Ff),the drag force and gravitational force acting on particles(FD,FG )are considered. The results show that this calculated method is able to predict accurately not only the pressure drop but also the air and solid velocity in different locations at varied conditions.
