The pupose of this study is to drive a practical design methodology for mesh-protected rockfill cofferdam.The study was composted of three major parts:â… .Non-Darcy seepage flow (1) Development of a general relationship between the hydraulic gradient and the velocity of seepage flow in rockfill,(2) Comparisons between all the available formula for nonDarch flow.(3) Development of a finite difference method to model the non-Darcy seepage field within a flowthrough rockfill cofferdam.â…¡.Development of modified wedge method for analysis of the stability of downstream slope of a flowthrough rockfill cofferdam and, on this basis ,construction of a design methodology for steel bars.â…¢.Development of a formula for the design of mesh protection at downstream slope of a overtopped rockfill cofferdam. The above-mentioned methods for the calculation of non-Darcy seepage and the stability of downstream slope were used to resolve a simulated engineering model and the results using these methods agreed perfectly with the experimental observationns.
