With the globalization of the economy, the competitions in the automobile industry are becoming more intensive, automobile manufacturers could win the competitions, only if they take aim at making high quality products with the lowest cost. As a heart, engine plays a key role in automobile. CHANGAN Automobile Corporation is the state-owned large enterprises, which is appointed to make mini cars & engines by the nation. In 1998, National Economy & Trade Committee has formally approved the CHANGAN projects which build production lines for ALTO cars & G series engines, the engine assembly line is one of the projects. G series engines, whose capability is in the leading position in domestic mini automobile industry, are the main models for CHANGAN cars & vans. The assembly line is very important in engine production, therefore, the design & built of the line is significant for the existence and development of the CHANGAN. Based on the CHANGAN research project of G series engine assembly line and its simultaneous quality monitoring & controlling system in key processing, this paper tracks the advanced technology in domestic and abroad, studies the design principle of production line, advanced manufacturing technology and computer assistant quality management. And the following achievements has been gained:1. This paper analyzes the circumstances and trends of engine assembly lines and its' simultaneous quality monitoring & controlling system technology in key processing, summarizes the basic principle of design concept and relevantly advanced manufacturing technology, and studies the function and principle of executing the simultaneous quality monitoring and controlling system in key processing of the assembly line.2. Based on the conditions of the CHANGAN, adopted the basic principle of the advanced manufacturing technology, absorbed the knowledge of the auto industry in domestic & abroad, the concept design of G series engine assembly line has been finished. And the line has been successfully put into operation in June 2001. The line runs steadily, and the datum reaches the requirements of the design. Automation, productivity and flexibility are high, the cost is lower, and the flow of goods is reasonable. It has been verified that the quality & capability of the G series engines has totally met the given standard. The design of the line fully embodied the realization of integrated optimumtarget of time, quality, cost, flexibility and environment (TQCFE); the design of the line reaches the leading position in domestic, and catches up with the international advanced level.3. Based on the practical situation of key processing of the line and the principle of computer assistant quality controlling, directed by network technology, datum technology and the theory of pick-up & analysis of quality datum, the design of simultaneous quality monitoring and controlling system of key processing in the line has been finished. And its system functional module has been run to display the results.
