As one of the Rapid Prototyping (RP) technology processes, Laminated Object Manufacturing (LOM) is paid much attention on because of its special forming velocity, and high precision and intensity of the prototype. But the equality of the LOM prototype is bad compared to that of the traditional machining technologies. The reason is that laser power hasn been controlled, which is focused on in this paper.First, a deep research into the mechanism of the LOM process is carried out and a parameter-matching computer-controlling model is founded to promise the constant incising depth. The analysis of the model shows that the proportional relationship between laser power and scanning velocity is the necessary qualification to get good equality of the LOM prototype. Meanwhile the applicability of the model in other RP processes and general laser cutting is also discussed.According to the model, the change of the scanning velocity is utilized to control the laser power, which is proposed as the controlling scheme in this paper. The 9400 Frequency Voltage Convector (FVC) and the extraction implement are selected for the design of the parameter matching controlling system. Thus the proportional relationship between laser power and scanning velocity is founded, and the nonlinear problem existing between laser power and current is solved. In the end, the performance of the controlling system is inspected by the theory analysis and simulated by Simulink module in the MatLab software. The both results show that the performance is so good that the laser power and the scanning velocity match well in all the process and the response speed and veracity request proposed to the system are achieved.
