This paper synthetically analyzes the various elements that affect reactive compensation, and suggests a mathematical model. The prerequisite is ensuring the quality of voltage and cutting down the network active power loss, and the object is to minimize the compensation facilities?cost. Meanwhile, with genetic algorithm, this paper does power system reactive optimization compensation computing, which has achieved the accurate deal of dispersed variable, made the result a scientific, accurate one, and fit to the power system operation most.To accelerate optimization speed, and to improve computing accuracy, this paper has modified the traditional genetic algorithm. Using a powervoltage residue modified method, this paper has accurately revised N-R power flow. With the mathematical model, the author makes the computing program. Practical examples have proved that the modified genetic algorithm has the characteristics of getting desirable result and high computing speed.
