This paper presents the application of a new genetic algorithm for the optimal design of urban radial distribution systems. Considering the fuzzy load, the constraints of planning models are relaxed based on the concept of fuzzy sets. The genetic algorithm starts with Parallel Breadth-Depth First Randomly Search Algorithm, which is presented to make radial distribution networks from a non-radial primary network. Furthennore, original operators of the genetic algorithm have been developed in order to obtain global optimal solutions and improve the run times. The new genetic algorithm has been implemented by object-oriented programming technique and visual programming technique. The algorithm has been also tested with the distribution system of ZhuHai achieving optimal designs.
