With the rapid development of GIS technology and RS technology, each technology has achieved wildly rapid application in a number of areas. At the same time, the method combined GIS and RS not only can better play their respective advantages, but also make their application a qualitative leap. This paper studies the calculation of reservoir storage capacity, the evaluation of reservoir irrigation power and agricultural water supply capacity by using of GIS and RS technology.Experimental object is Yangpai Reservoir in Yaoan County, Chuxiong, Yunnan Province. Respectively extract the water area of the reservoir using GIS and RS technology, and based on the extraction of reservoir water area accurately calculate reservoir storage capacity. While using GIS spatial analysis function to estimating reservoir irrigation capacity, and get the plan of Yangpai reservoir irrigation area and water supplies at 2016.Main study contents include:1.the theory of GIS and RS technology has been described in detail, and a new method of calculating reservoir storage capacity on this basis.2.based on GIS and RS extracted reservoir water area, and substituted into the "area-capacity" model to calculate the value of storage capacity of the reservoir.3.buffer analysis for Yangpai Reservoir supporting irrigation canals, and overlay analysis for the buffer area, administrative boundaries and irrigated farmland distribution within the scope of irrigated areas.4.Analysis calculated each village’s real irrigated area and its farmland distribution in reservoir irrigation area. Making plans of agricultural production water demand and analysis of the situation of Yangpai reservoir irrigation agricultural production in 2016.
