With the rapid development of vehicular ad hoc network(VANET) and the WIFI technology is widely used, It is very easy to communicate with the AP(Access Point,AP) when the vehicle are driving on the road. At the same time,If the enemy installs the rogue AP in the mobile vehicles, Due to its mobility, it can keep for a long period of time around the user. So this kind of rogue AP is able to maintain a long connection with users. Thus, the adversary has more time to launch various attacks to steal users’ private information. According to the characteristics and dangers of this vehicular rogue AP, This paper proposes a practical detection scheme based on the comparison of Receive Signal Strength Indicator(RSSI) to prevent users from connecting to rogue APs.The main research results and contributions are as follows:(1) The values of RSSI are very easy to be affected by the surrounding environment. In order to optimize the RSSI samples values, this paper uses gauss model to remove part of the greatest error of RSSI value and uses optimal weighting method to obtain the final RSSI values. Compared with the average model, the optimal weighted gauss model has smaller error.(2) Aiming at the changing vehicular environment, an algorithm based on RSSI and distance mapping was presented. The solution changes the traditional one-to-one relationship between single RSSI values and distance to one-to-many relationship. The method employs the one-to-many relationship to achieve a ranging algorithm, which is more suitable for vehicular network environment. This ranging method within 50 meters, more than 90% can achieve within 2 meters ranging error, and the average relative error is 3.98%.(3)Using the proposed ranging algorithm, this paper proposes a practical detection scheme to prevent users from connecting to rogue AP. The detection scheme is based on RSSI values and GPS location information, where the user can verify whether the RSSIvalues match the broadcast location of AP, so as to achieve the purpose of judging rogue AP. The experimental results show that, this method can effectively identify the vehicular rogue AP.(4) Based on the proposed ranging algorithm, this paper presents a scheme based on relative positioning to judge rogue AP, users only need to use their received a series of RSSI values can relative positioning on the location of the AP, then the user can know the AP is on the lane or on the both side of the road. Experiments show that, based on RSSI values of relative positioning error is within 5 meters, can meet on the requirements of judgeing vehicular rudge AP.
