According to engine working conditions, an electromagnetic actuated valvetrain developed can regulate valves’motion independently, continuous variably and real-time, which will improve engine’s fuel economy and emissions significantly. In order to apply the electromagnetic actuated valvetrain to engine and verify its’feasibility and advantage, this paper carries out the main contents as following:(1) In camless engine, the electromagnetic actuated valvetrain can control the load instead of the throttle, which is analyzed. The work process numerical simulation models of traditional engine and camless. engine are established. Their work processes are analyzed. The MAP diagram of the inlet valve open duration on the engine equipped with electromagnetic actuated valvetrain under different engine working conditions is drawn.(2) The camless engine and its test bench are established. In order to get the camless engine, the electromagnetic actuated valvetrain is installed, the fuel supply system, air intake system and cooling system are improved. The establishment of the test bench is mainly including engine support structure and vibration isolation structure design, the choice of the coupling, etc., as well as the processing and assembling, engine installation work.(3) The demonstration of the camless engine equipped with electromagnetic actuated valvetrain is completed. The project of integrated controller and the project of the controller connecting engine’s ECU and electromagnetic actuated valvetrain’s controller are compared.(4) Under the condition of the engine does not work, the performance test of electromagnetic valvetrain is completed. The result shows that the maximum valve lift can be reached 8mm, and the transition time of the valve mechanism is controlled in 4ms. It can regulate the motion of valves stably, continuous variably and real-time according to engine working conditions.(5) The performance of traditional engine is tested. The camless engine equipped with electromagnetic actuated valvetrain get operation successfully. The maximum Inlet valve lift and the maximum exhaust valve lift are debugged, and idle test is completed, which is a base for further research.
