The 8 mm waveband radiometer is increasingly widely used in the application of onboard, but for a long time it was tested mainly by making some physical prototype outdoor experiments. In order to make up this shortage, this paper has designed a set of hardware-in-the-loop simulation testing system, based on the radiometric characteristics of real metal-target and this system can be used to test the performance of the radiometer. In addition, the system includes a small block shielding test chamber according with the condition of quiet zone, a platform controlled by MCU and a signal collection module of radiometer. The main work of this paper includes the following aspects.First of all, this paper analyzes the working principle of passive millimeter wave detector, then, on this basis, it gives the overall implementation plan and sets up the target equivalent mathematical model for the millimeter wave radiometer hardware-in-the-loop simulation testing system.Secondly, on the theory of electromagnetic wave propagation, electromagnetic shielding and absorbing materials, the paper describes the small block shielding test chamber according with the condition for the successful simulation of open test field, including the mechanical structure design and static analysis and calculation of quiet zone.Again, the paper emphatically analyzes the software and hardware of this indoor millimeter wave radiometer target recognition testing system. The hardware design mainly includes the 8mm noise source, the 8mm attenuator, the antenna, the platform controlled by MCU and the signal collection of radiometer. The software design includes embedded system software and PC control platform.Finally, the paper achieved the whole physical test of this radiometer target recognition test system. It has realized the basic function of each module, thus we can make some performance parameters test of radiometer and simulate metal target characteristics under different intersection condition. By contrasting the analysis between the test results and actual field test data, the system has obtained the desired effect.
