High-voltage transmission lines are often charged with the task of great power delivery, large cross-border, long distance, difficult terrain. Statistics show that lightning trip has been the main factor affecting the safe and stable operation of the line, so to get an accurate line fault location, correctly determine the lightning fault type, help quickly find the point of failure, reduce the workload of the transmission line, targeted to improve line lightning, lightning trip to reduce the rate and improve transmission reliability. Traveling wave fault location technology helps to locate the fault point of the line quickly and accurately, but the capture of traveling wave is easy to be disturbed, unreliable, the location result is instable and its deviation is very discrete, can not adapt to different fault type, the automation of analysis is low, etc. So traveling wave fault location technology in urgent need of in-depth research and solutions. Lightning location system(LLS) is used to measure the position and time of lightning, and quite meaningful for transmission lines lightning protection, however, because it is influenced by topography measurement accuracy, so lightning location system can not accurately determine whether a lightning strike hit the transmission lines or towers. After the on-site operation and maintenance personnel get the result of traveling wave fault location, they inquiry results of lightning location system through WEB, and determine whether the fault is caused by lightning based on the results and experience. Although by this way on-site operation and maintenance personnel has basically combined two systems applications, but it is too subjective and ignores the information of electrical fault data, this method is low reliability in the conclusions, can not accurately determine whether the fault is caused by lightning. Therefore, in-depth analysis of both data and extract useful information, explore a combination method of both systems and get an accurate fault type criterion, will help to determine the lightning fault and non-lightning fault.
