As an important part of the energy resources in Yunnan Province, coal has accounted for more than60%in primary energy production and consumption structure, which will not change for a long time in the future. And due to their geological and geographical conditions of Yunnan, properties of coal is very complicated in Yunnan. It is mainly because that coal properties can not meet the requirements of designing it, and even sometimes in very poor condition, which therefore generates a huge impact on the safe and stable operation of the transfer system in Yunnan thermal power plants. These effects are primarily embodied in power generation capacity, the safe operation of equipment and operating economic, and they are involved in various periods of each individual coal power plant conditions. This paper mainly analyzes impact on thermal power plants operation in complex coal properties from the following aspects:(1) Studying the present situation of Yunnan coal resources through practical research and investigation, grasping the characteristics of typical coal in Yunnan.(2) Figuring out practical situation of coal supply and quality variation of Yunnan thermal power plants; theoretically analyzing various coal characteristics that possibly influence thermal power plants operation.(3) Finding out coal production and marketing status in Yunnan Province and its impact on thermal power plants.(4) Studying the effects which coal characteristics make on most power plants equipment by theoretical and practical analysis.(5) Researching the impacts which coal quality variation makes on economy of power plants operation.(6) Analyzing influences which complicate coal conditions have on thermal power generation capacity by investigating Yunnan power plants in recent years.Through the analysis of these studies, this article is a precious reference on problems and solutions which may be came across in different aspects of coal dressing, blending, equipment warranty, as well as prediction about pollutant emissions.The main conclusions are:(1) Regarding coal production and consumption over Yunnan Province, the production capacity is lower than the average consumption, bituminous coal power plant is in short coal supply, and coal long-term deterioration will continue. What’s worse, coal shortage downtime will continue to appear. Due to the fragile balance between supply and demand of coal, thermal power plant coal storage should be concerned in dry season, so that prevent coal shortage and shutdown. (2) Yunnan coal thermal power plants is a direct factor, coal indirect factors, mill (coal line) and unilateral fan failure. For these reasons, directly or indirectly affected by coal quality. Because coal boiler causes deterioration leading to less output events accounted for nearly80%.(3) Coal supply and characteristics have significant impact on thermal power generation capacity, mainly for the large number of high-load and minimum unit without oil can not achieve stable combustion contribute to the needs of the design output, seriously affecting the adjustable range of thermal power units. Since the decline of coal for thermal power generating units each whole network maximum output and minimum load stable combustion without oil caused varying degrees of impact, resulting in varying degrees of impact on the supply capacity of thermal power plants, the extent of the impact depends on the specific situation deteriorating coal. It is certain that the deterioration of coal will have great influence on thermal power generation capacity.(4) Coal properties play a critical role in economic operation of fired power plants. Impacts which coal changes make on power plants operation economy can be divided into coal and other costs, efficiency, load, unit availability, equipment maintenance cost.(5) Heat power plants burning anthracite, bituminous coal, lignite power plant coal into the furnace low heat down into the furnace of coal sulfur content in Yunnan Province, ash content increased, and the coal fluctuated widely, leading to serious deviation from the coal into the furnace design value. Coal declined to economic units, have a great impact safe operation, there is a decrease in the thermal efficiency of the boiler, coal consumption increased combustion stability decreased, unit-load, peaking capacity reduced, once the system pressure fluctuations and other issues.
