Providing good residential and working environment for indoor people, the fresh air is absolutely necessary. Natural ventilation realizes the air exchange of the room without mechanical energy, at the same time, improves the indoor air quality. It is the best interpretation of constructing green buildings and realizing energy saving.The traditional method of natural ventilation is opening the window, however, this method is hard to control and achieve if the room is high air tightness. Therefore, paying attention to the natural ventilation and following its discipline is important. On that basis, bring out new department and make optimization is significant of using natural ventilation. This study based on the analysis of the power and discipline of natural ventilation, using the method of theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and experimental verification to research an automatic wind catcher, and base on the study, the optimization method is brought out. The concrete work is as follows:The principle of the automatic wind catcher is discussed. Based on the study of wind pressure, the key factor of influent to the wind catcher is put forward. Built up the wind tunnel experiment table, combined calculation and experiment data, the optimization of mechanical characteristic is put forward. The start-up velocity and reaction time are optimized by adjust the air deflector. Using the method of numerical simulation, the geometry dimension optimization about the exhaust grill of the automatic wind catcher was carried out. And the result was verified by experiment. Based on the previous results, combined with numerical simulation, the optimization parameter of different diameters of the wind catcher was put forward as well.Based on the study of wind pressure, applied the wind catcher on a building whose height is 10m, and the effect of the thermal pressure is analysis. The ventilation performance of optimization effect is forecast. Aiming at the operation characteristic of the wind catcher on high residence, the suitable type of the wind catcher is chosen to achieve the air exchange of the room.The influence of the building roof to the ventilation characteristic is focused on. These results gave reference to engineering application of the automatic wind catcher.
