Hull form design is an important component of the overall design of a ship, and it has a significant impact on the ship's technical performance and economy. The hull is streamline body with double curvature; usually the shape of its surface is a complex smooth curved surface, which makes the expression of the hull surface during ship design lot of difficulties. Engineers are always looking for better ways to express ship and ship design industry have also used computer software to aid the design of the hull to reduce the workload.In the preliminary design of ship, in order to quickly get a smoothing hull lines, ship designers have carried out a number of attempts. In this article, based on the idea of ship with minimum wetted surface area, a method is put forward by using second order curve to describe the hull form. And we studied the details of the second order curve method to generate a smoothing hull according to ship's main dimensions, curves of areas etc. At the same time, automatic generation program of hull lines are written to verify the feasibility of generation method in an actual ship design.In order to generate ship hull with better performance, considering ship speed as the goal, we optimized several parameters by genetic algorithm, using linear wave theory to calculate the wave-making resistance of ships. The result of the optimization can be used to generate hull form which has a lower resistance.
