Water distribution networks are important infrastructure of cities, and they play important role in suing water safely in cities. At present, the design of water distribution networks is mainly depended on the experience of the designers, including assigning the pipes and sizing them. This design can guarantee the safety of water supply, but not the economy of the networks. Optimization of the water supply networks means to seeking the minimum fee of the networks on the basis of the safety.These days there are many optimization methods. In this paper, the advantages and the disadvantages of these methods are analyzed, and the Genetic algorithm which is often used in optimizing the networks is introduced. Genetic algorithm is a powerful tool in searching the answers of the optimizing problems. This method is simple and powerful, and is widely used in many fields. In this paper, the optimization method of genetic algorithm of multi-going based on the average fee of the network is set up. Through coding the pipes, evaluating the value of the fitness function, and evolution, the economical pipe sizes are found.In this paper, the method of optimization of the multi-going water distribution network based on genetic algorithm is discussed. Finally, the genetic algorithms model is verified by its application on optimal design of mutli-going water supply networks of Songjianghe Town in Fusong County in Jilin Province.
