1931 ~ 1945, the three Northeast Provinces of China had been fallen into"Manchukuo"by the colonial aggression of Japanese imperialism, Changchun was selected as the"Capital""Hsingking"of Puppet Manchu State. In order to achieve aggression, Japanese aggressors had wantonly built various kinds of architectures all of which were designed and completed by Japanese architects. 1933 ~ 1946, by the invitation of Manchukuo Central Bank, Arata Endo came to Changchun and designed a series of buildings, such as club, president's and vice-president's official residences, official mansions for directors, dormitory for single persons, and collective dormitory. Arata Endo was the Flank Lloyd Wright's favorite pupil and he brought Prairie style into Changchun.Arata Endo's modern architectural works in Changchun do not only express the organic ideology of being close with nature, but also reflect the design concept that local geographical environment is harmonious with the characteristics of Chinese traditional culture. this thesis tries to explain and give comprehensive definition to Arata Endo's design concept and method through deeply analyzing the characteristics of there historical architectures. It hopes to supply a gap of research on the development course of theories on organic architectures in Changchun, to provide valuable references for the development of modern architectural design in our country and to inspire people's awareness of protection.By comprehensively and systematically sorting out these works, this thesis deeply analyzes and discusses Arata Endo's building concepts and works. Firstly, it sums up the influencing factors and developing course of his ideology. Secondly, it generalizes his design methods on organic ideology through analyzing the features of prairie style of Arata Endo's modern works in Changchun. By comparing with other foreign architects in China at the same time, it discriminates the similarities and differences in treating Chinese traditional architectural culture among them and makes historical comments to this effect. It hopes to offer a few commonplace remarks so that others may come up with valuable opinions for the development of modern architectures in our country and brings forward some concrete improvement and measures so as to enable rebirth according to survey of status quo and value analysis and makes a contribution to the development of Changchun.
