Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP for short) is an advanced engineeringmaterial, a combination of high-strength, high-stiffness fibers and lowcost, light weight, corrosion resistance, anti-fatigue, that some traditionalmaterials are replaced by the FRP gradually, and there are more and moreapplications of it in building structures. So, it is very essential to make astudy of buckling analysis on FRP plates and FRP columns. This paper introduces the material properties of FRP, including itsproduction process and the excellent performance, summarizing thewidespread use and developing trends of FRP in structures at home andabroad, as well as describes the basic methods and theoretical results ofthe FRP about the stability analysis. The buckling of FRP plates and FRPcolumns is emphatically analysed in this paper. Based on stability theoryof linear and nonlinear finite element method, by the MSC Software, afinite element model of FRP plates that with thin shell rectangular thinplate elements is established that to obtain the general rule of FRP platebuckling through the analysis of the FRP plates. The different forms ofboundary conditions and loads are adopted in the model, discusses the local stability of I,box,T section columns, studies the global stabilityanalysis of I,box columns under the ideal and initial bending conditionsrespectively to obtain the rules of global stability when consideringdifferent slenderness ratios and three different material parameters. At last,we summarize the paper and propose the prospects.
