Boron doped diamond seems to be a promising electrode material and has received great attention recently. It possesses several technologically important characteristics that distinguish it from conventional electrolysis electrodes, such as good conductivity, extremely wide potential window, and very low background current, excellent chemical and electrochemical stability, remarkable corrosion stability. In order to develop its application in wastewater treatment, preparation and electrochemical properties of BDD electrode were studied, and wastewater treatment experiments were carried out in this paper. The main work and results obtained in this paper are as follow: 1. The heat exchange in reaction chamber of the HFCVD system was analyzed at first, then the finite element model of substrate temperature field was established. The effects of deposition parameters on substrate temperature field and its uniformity were studied, such as hot filament temperature, space between hot filaments, distance of hot filament and substrate, number of hot filaments and hot filament radius.2. Preparation of BDD coating electrodes on Ti substrate were carried out adopting different process parameters in HFCVD system, and the effects of substrate temperature and carbon sources concentration on quality of Ti substrate BDD coating electrodes were studied. Then the process parameters of the preparation of Ti/BDD coating electrodes were optimized.3. Electrochemical properties of Ti/BDD coating electrodes were investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The potential window and background current were determined, and the reversibility of Ti/BDD coating electrodes as well as its catalytic oxidation performance to phenol was analyzed. Additionally, the influences of boron source concentration on electrochemical properties of BDD electrodes were studied.4. Electrolysis treatment experiments of model wastewater and practical wastewater with Ti/ BDD coating electrodes, BDD thick film electrodes and Ti/IrO2/Ta2O5 oxide coating electrodes were carried out. The results indicate that BDD electrodes show wonderful electrochemical oxidation ability towards organic wastewarter, and its treatment range and efficiency are markedly superior to the conventional Ti/IrO2/Ta2O5 oxide coating electrodes.
