Hybrid excitation synchronous machine (HESM) is a new kind of machine which is developed from permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM), it not only maintains the high power density of PMSM, but also has the adjustable air-gap magnetic field of electrically excited synchronous machine (ESM), HESM has caused extensive attention for using in aircraft power,new energy power generation. Variable-frequency (VF) power has become the development direction of aircraft AC power system, rotor magnet-shunting HESM has wide voltage regulation capacity, and it has important application prospect in VF power system.In order to construct the VF power generation system based on HESM, studying the output characteristic of HESM and designing the appropriate voltage regulator are the preconditions. This paper mainly researches the generation characteristics,modeling method of rotor magnet-shunting HESM and digital voltage regulating technique, builds the technique foundation for HESM which can be used in aircraft AC power generation system.The operation principle of rotor magnet-shunting HESM is firstly introduced, and the regulating capacity of air gap magnetic field is studied by 3D finite element analysis. The 3D transient field circuit coupled analysis model of rotor magnet-shunting HESM is constructed, simulation analysis of no-load output characteristics and external characteristics are finished, then experiment verification is carried out. The mathematical model of rotor magnet-shunting HESM based on MATLAB is built with machine voltage equation and calculation results of simulation.The RMS calculation method of three phases AC and multi-loop control theory are studied for the wide speed range requirement of VF power generation. Closed loop regulation simulation is carried out based on the established machine model, the steady-state performance and dynamic performance are analyzed, stable voltage output is realized by three loops control method of output voltage loop,exciting current loop and load current loop. The brushless DC motor (BLDCM) drive system based on the control of dSPACE is constructed, and a digital voltage regulator for HESM based on TMS320F2812 is designed. Experimental results indicate that power generation system based on the rotor magnet-shunting HESM has good steady-state performance and dynamic performance, can meet the basic requirements of VF power system for aircraft.
