Cemetery has different characteristicin different regional and cultural background, which reflects people's living conditions and mirrors social aspects such as economy, culture and customs.On the one hand, The Chinese Nation is featured by an old and long history and resplendent civilization, and Chinese gardening is a unique style of its own.On the other hand, China is a huge geographical country, with a large population and various folkways and customs. Owing to the effect of traditional cultures, customs and backward in economy in recent years, the cemetery construction still remainsconservative.At present, China has broadly finished the first reform of the funeral system (cremation), and ushered in the second, which is mainly advocates good care of one's parents (while they are alive) and simple burials for them (when they are dead). It also popularizes the small and ecological energy-saving grave styles, and also the graveyard with the garden style.With the trend of this, a lot of modern garden-type cemeteries have arisen in the eastern coastal developed districts of China,combining with the western ecological concepts.The trend of the construction of modern cemetery should satisfy the demand for the social development. A cemetery is no longer a gloomy place, it is peaceful and comfortable.This kind of change reflects a concept that we attach importance not only the beginning but also the ending of life.AS a period of transition, however, people are affected by many factors such as traditional culture and various social realities.The cemeteryconstruction could be large deviation without taking into account the practical considerations of China and imitate the West blindly.Against this background, discussing the existing problems in the construction of public cemetery in Chinese large cities and drawing on a large number of cases both at home and board, this study is concerned primarily with urgent tasks in the cemetery constructions of China. The specific contents as follows:Relationship between cemeteries and cities, inheritance of the funeral culture ourselves, ecological sustainability of cemetery, functional spatial design of cemetery and so on.Furthermore, this study attempts to arrange some strategies of the cemetery planning and design that fit the urban development of present China.This thesis studies in a research idea of raising,analyzing and solving problems, and the whole can be divided into 6 parts:Chapter 1: Introduced the background, discussed interrelatedconcept and fixed the range of study, that is, primarily,the sort of gardening and commercial cemetery for public that appeared in recent ten years; then summarized the situation of public cemetery both at home and abroad, and proposed the purpose, meaning, method and content of this thesis.Chapter 2: Summarized the characters of modern cemetery based on an understanding of the history; then fixed problems and cut-in point of this study from this.Chapter 3: Through the actual survey works in public cemeteries in Shanghai, Chongqing, proposed problems from respects of location, scant, culture, ecology, function and space design.Chapter 4: Directed towards above-mentioned problems, proposed something to be worth to absorb concluded from 3 cases abroad and 2 domestic cases, then compared and summarized.Chapter 5: based on the analysis of the corresponding problems in front, proposed corresponding strategies and analyzed development trendin several aspects.Chapter 6: summary and outlook.Among them, the whole chapter 3, 4, 5 are linked closely with four aspects, that is, "location, function and scale; the culture; the ecology; functional and spatial design".And the first and second chapters in front is the reason that why the four aspects to be divided.
