Expansive soil is the special geologic body with expansive and shrinkage property. Theselection of indices and methods for on-site identification and classification of expansive soilshas much influence on formulating the engineering measure. Setting out from the soil expansionmechanism and soil conductivity mechanism, systematical tests for on-site identification andclassification of expansive soils have been carried on. Studied are conducted on the correlationof electrical conductivity and soil hydrophilic and of electrical conductivity and soil expansion.Through a lot of laboratory tests,established the mathematical equation of identification andclassification of expansive soil by means of soil electrical conductivity. Systematically studiedthe factors which influence electrical conductivity of expansive soil. Researched the correlationbetween indexes of classification of expansive soil by using the mathematical statistical softwareSPSS. Tentatively, given a set of using electrical conductivity method identification andclassification on-site of expansive soils method, and combine laboratory test results of expansivesoil with on-site test in the South-to-North Transfer Expensive Rock (Soil) Test Section, adapt iton project Site of the identification and classification of expansive soils.Main content and results of this paper are as follows:1. Studies show that between the electrical conductivity and free swell ratio and soilhydrophilic are have significant correlation;2. Studies show that between the electrical conductivity and free swell ratio of the standardsample and the typical areas of expansive soil have significant linear relationship.3. Illustrates the soil salt content, water content, density, temperature, Cation ExchangeCapacity and Specific Surface Area and other indicators of soil conductivity.4. Tentatively, given a set of using electrical conductivity method identification andclassification on-site of expansive soils method.
