In the textile, printing, paper, strip rolling and other industrial areas, conventional ways of manually adjusting tension or other backward control modes often are used, however the control precision is not high, and it is difficult to achieve real-time automatic constant tension that the production process of materials were affected by uneven tension which affects product quality. In order to solve this problem, magnetorheological fluid damper (MRF damper) that the output is easy to control with the damping characteristics and better transmission characteristics, was proposed to the actuator of tension control system in this thesis. Theoretical modeling, simulation analysis, experimental research, and control methods were conducted based on MRF damper. Meanwhile, a new kind of devices and methods of tension control in the linear and thin ribbon product were explored.In this thesis, the mathematical model of tension control system was established based on MRF damper by the analysis and discussion of its structure and transmission characteristics; the laws of tension with the scroll wheel speed , the radius, and the relationship between tension and the damping torque of MRF damper were studied. Meanwhile, the principles and methods of tension were proposed by controlling the MRF damper to regulate the excitation current.Based on MRF damper of the tension control system, the control volume (exciting current) is determined by the unwinding wheel speed and radius, which the relationships between them are more complicated. At the same time, because of the hysteresis characteristic of MRF damper, the model is difficult to design for the controller. In order to solve this problem, the fuzzy control method is used and the corresponding fuzzy control rules were designed.The tension control test rig was designed based on MRF damper. The industrial computer is the core of experimental table composed of the variable frequency motor,servo motor,magneto-rheological fluid damper,tension sensor,speed torque sensor, scroll wheel and radius sensors, It can simulate the tension changes of yarn and strip products in the process of winding and control the tension in accordance with requirements. This tension control system was designed include the main control module, tension test module, speed torque detection module, tension control module, data acquisition and storage modules based on the development tools of LabVIEW. The tension control of the yarn and belt was established by this study, and a set of control system was compiled by the LabVIEW. Then, we completed with the experimental of tension control of the yarn and belt by using test rig and the control system, and obtained useful conclusions by analyzing the reasonableness of test rig and control system to verify the model and the associated simulation. Experimental results show that MRF damper as the executing agency of the tension control system which can effective regulate tension and reduce its fluctuations, and the possibility of using the MRF damper in tension control. its theoretical analysis and experimental is of guiding significance to future design and research.
