Experimental Study On Fuel Spray Characteristics In Model Combustor

Abstract/Summary:
In this paper,A Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is adopted to measure the fuel spray fields of the model annularcombustor with the swirl cup and a centrifugal fuel injector and the rectangular combustor with the fuel jet injector in crossflow. The influenecs of different inlet flow parameters (inlet temperature and airflow rate and fuel/air ratio)on fuel spray characteristics in the model annularcombustor are investigated by experiment. The effects of different inlet temperature and pressure,fuel injection pressure and injector hole diameter on the fuel spray fields of the rectangular combustor are also analyzed experimentally.Experimental data are shown that:(1) Fuel spray characteristics of the model annular combustor with the swirl cup are affected with varying degrees by inlet flow parameters (inlet temperature and airflow rate and fuel/air ratio). Because the fuel/air ratio and air flow rate are related directly to fuel flow rate, the effects of fuel/air ratio and air flow rate on the distributions of droplet number and number density of different diameters are stronger. The droplet evaporation is relevant with the inlet temperature. The droplet number and number density decrease with increase of inlet temperature.But the influenecs of different inlet temperature on profiles of percentage of different diameter droplets are weak.(2) The fuel flow rate and injection velocity are affected by fuel injection pressure in the rectangular combustor. The influences of fuel injection pressure on profiles of droplet number are obvious. The fuel injection velocity and spray performance vary with the injector hole diameter. The effect of inlet temperature on profiles of droplet number and SMD for the droplet evaporation.
