Heavy-frozen areas of Inner Mongolia has the harsh weather conditions and severe overloading, asphalt pavement that have been built in the early destructed seriously and rapid decline in road quality, a serious impact on the vehicle speed and the safe operation of heavy ice areas hampered rapid economic development. Therefore, in order to fundamentally improve and enhance the heavy-freezing areas the use of asphalt pavement performance, extending its life, the frozen zone for heavy traffic in Inner Mongolia and climate conditions, the introduction of foreign long-life asphalt pavement design and carry out heavy-frozen district asphalt pavement design study has important practical significance.This paper analyzes the climatic characteristics, traffic conditions and pavement status of the heavy-frozen area, with the area traffic and axle load distribution, heavy-frozen zone pavement design parameters of the axle load depth study found areas of heavy ice season axle load conversion parameters. Based on foreign long-life asphalt pavement design concepts, define the area of heavy ice damage to the critical state of asphalt pavement, with heavy-frozen climate and traffic characteristics, proposed heavy-frozen head of inner life index and the asphalt pavement design requirements.
