With the expansion of production in modern industry and the boost of complexity in control systems, the reliability and safety of industrial control system is attracting more and more attention. In order to insure the reliability and safety in industry production and control systems, the research and development of failure diagnose technology is really crucial. Nowadays, this research direction becomes a hot spot in the field of automatic control.This topic is mainly about the failure diagnose technology of intelligent/smart instruments. A (different) pressure transmitter, which is consistent with the HART fieldbus protocol, is our research object. The research content is divided into two parts. The first part is about self-diagnose of smart pressure transmitter. Here, a smart instrument should estimate whether the functions of signal collect module, internal power module, data process module and electric output module is correct by the hardware and software of its own. The second part is about dynamic process diagnose of smart different pressure transmitter. In the diagnose scheme, some statistic parameters of the primary variable will be taken as the signature of a dynamic process. Since the difference between the normal status and the abnormal status of a process will be reflected on these statistic parameters, people can diagnose the process by identifying these parameters. To reach our target, we make some changes to the current hardware and software of a transmitter. The diagnose functions will be added to the system without changing the intrinsic functions of this transmitter. Besides, we write some software on the master side to assist the diagnose operation and display the diagnose data and conclusion.After finishing the design of all diagnose functions, we make a set of test plan in current environment to validate each diagnose item. According to the test conclusion, all of the diagnose functions can meet out design requirements and achieve the target of this topic. In the end, we make a conclusion to the research and design work, and bring our idea and prospect to the future work forward.
