Based on the analysis and research of various worm drive, a new kind of non-backlash worm gear sets, named double-roller enveloping hourglass worm drive, is proposed by Professor Wang Jinge. It is applied to the resolution of problem which exists in worm drive with reversal dead-zone in now mechanical transmission field. The performance test of double-roller enveloping hourglass worm drive is an effective method for testing theory accuracy and prototype practicability of this new worm drive. Non-backlash double-roller enveloping hourglass worm drive is a kind of special form of the new worm-drive, it's working principle, three-dimensional entity modeling, finite element modal analysis and performance test of worm reducer are investigated in this paper. The content of this research is as follows:According to geometry parameters design of the enveloping hourglass worm, geometry features of the worm is obtained in MATLAB which is a powerful mathematical software and the solid model of the worm is established in Pro/E. Referring to the structural design of the double-roller worm gear, the solid model of the worm wheel and the reducer box are built and the machine assembly is done according to assembly drawing of the worm reducer by applying the three-dimensional design software Pro/E.Through the interface between Ansys and Pro/E, the geometric models built in Pro/E are imported into Ansys, and the finite element model of the worm pair and the reducer box is established. Modal analysis is carried out and the natural frequency and the first 10 step vibration mode of the worm, the wheel and the reducer box are obtained.The test system design scheme for non-backlash double-roller enveloping hourglass worm gear reducer and the test principle of each performance parameters are expounded, and related instrument equipment are selected.Finally, transmission test of the non-backlash double-roller enveloping hourglass worm gear reducer is conducted, various performance parameters are measured, experimental results are analysed, the performance of reducer is evaluated, and the improvement and optimization measures is put forward.
