In modern society, the automobiles have become a kind of very important vehicle. They are sailing into Chinese family step by step and turn into a part of people's daily life. China Association of Automobile Manufactures releases the automobiles sales volume of 2010, the automobiles sales volume at home reach eighteen million and six, increase by 32.37%.The output is eighteen million and twenty six, increase by 32.44%.The fast development of quantity of possessed motor vehicles makes China sail into auto society fleetly. Quantity of possessed motor vehicles is increasing and the road is becoming more and more crowded. These situations certainly will make some traffic accidents increase. Naturally people will pay more and more attention to the safety of vehicles.From reform and open, our country's automobiles industry has developed well. A country's technology level of automobiles industry reflects the level of science and technology to a great extent. Now all international automobiles tycoon put the China market on the most important location. But under the huge ring of enormous sales volume, is the reality that Chinese automobiles industry lack core technology. We can't exchange market for core technology. The responsibilities that adjust structure of industry are still heavy. We should pick up the huge difference about CAD/CAE technology between our country and foreign country. The bodywork is the most important component about vehicles safety. If we emulate the bodywork crash and analyses the outcome, estimate the vehicle's safety and find problems, and solve problems during the digital design stage, that will cut way back on the time of new car's development and cut correlative cost.This paper sets forth the auto CAE technology's current situation,development and application briefly and systematically, and the basic theories of FEA method and its application to bodywork, and the basic theories of vehicles safety and crash. The correlative statute and standard of the crash test. All of these provide theoretical basis for entire paper. Combining a mini coupe which I participate in the development, I analyses and research the safety of side crash.Firstly use CATIA and HYPERMESH to simplify bodywork, include dealing with holes,stiffening bar,flanging and so on reasonably. In the software of HYPERMESH, set up the FEA model of this bodywork, choose appropriate meshing size to mesh the model, set appropriate element type and material property and so on. Apply load and constraint on the FEA model that has been meshed. Use the software of LS-DYNA as solver to calculate the FEA model. Then linking the preceding theoretical basis, analyses and estimates the emulating outcome, and prepare for improvement. During the improving stage, use the methods that modifying the position of anti-collision beam and modifying the material to improve. The target components of improving are invasive distance and acceleration of a related node on the door's internal plate.
